In 2008, Gafcon was selected by Rancho Santa Fe School District to provide Program Management Services for the modernization of the R. Roger Rowe Elementary and Middle School. Originally built in 1919, the schools sits on a very small 7.5 gross acreage with a 40 foot varied elevation from entry to field. Five aging buildings were modernized and new two- and three-story buildings were constructed providing 55 new classrooms and labs, a 400-seat state-of-the-art performing arts/multi-purpose building, a new technology center, new District and School offices, a staff lounge, conference rooms, and upgraded utilities.
The challenge of construction of this magnitude on such a small site while students occupied the campus was solved using a phased approach. Gafcon worked closely with the District, architect and contractors to make sure construction was completed within a two year time frame. Gafcon’s team also provided construction management, estimating, constructability review and scheduling services.
