2/21/16 - SDBJ: Construction Completed on $7.6M Project at Monte Vista High School
Grossmont Union High School District announced Feb. 18 the completion of three classroom building projects at Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley.

Funded by Proposition U, the $7.6 million project renovated and modernized the 700, 800 and 800A buildings, a total of almost 32,000 square feet.

The 700 building features a new kitchen for the campus and two classrooms for the school’s music programs. The 800 building contains new computer labs, a new ASB facility, a new student weight room, student restrooms, office space and storage. The 800A building houses the auto and metals career technical education programs.

The project manager was Scott Wilkins, the general contractor was Erickson-Hall Construction Co. and the architect was Harley Ellis Devereaux. The construction started in June of 2015. The construction managers were the district and Harley Ellis Devereaux, and the Proposition H and U program manager was Gafcon Inc.

The renovation project is part of a larger effort to bring outdated facilities up to modern standards and accommodate the district’s Career Technical Education pathways. A ribbon-cutting and building dedication ceremony was held Feb. 18.

The proposition this project was funded by was budgeted at $601.7 million, including a $417 million bond measure passed by voters in 2008 and an expected $184.7 million in state funding and interest earnings. The bond will complete the modernization of district schools and provide classrooms and equipment for career technical education.
