Named Elementary School of the Year by Time Magazine in 2001, The Accelerated School (TAS) had outgrown its K-8 campus. In 2002, Gafcon was selected as their project manager/owner’s representative to negotiate with Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to expand the campus by adding over 100,000 sf and build a state-of-the-art multiplex of schools for kindergarten-12th grades. Gafcon was instrumental in establishing TAS as the first successful public/private partnership to implement a “turn-key” project delivery system within the LAUSD system.
In 2011, The Accelerated Schools again selected Gafcon to provide owner representative services to expand the Accelerated Charter Elementary School (ACES) campus into a state-of-the-art LEED Silver certified pre-K through sixth-grade public school. Gafcon’s team will provide design team coordination of conceptual planning and programming, schematic plan review, budget oversight, value engineering, and contractor outreach and selection and overall construction management for the $25 million project.
