Gafcon Inc. has been selected to lead a visionary master planning and development process for Zizhu Purple Bay, a mega 800-acre waterfront site along the Huangpu River located 18 miles south of the Bund of Shanghai. As Program Manager, Gafcon leads a team including AVRP Skyport, McCullough Landscape Architecture, Moffat & Nichol (marine engineering), and OdySea (aquarium operation) in developing the master design.
The growing urban center will feature multi-generational yacht homes and condominiums; a nature and education center with an approximately 125,000-square-foot aquarium and botanical gardens; a rowing club; a hotel; and a community services district with a health clinic, senior housing, a youth center, and multiple schools.
Construction is underway on portions of the Purple Bay site with the Gafcon-led Phase 2 master plan beginning in March of 2018 on the 800-acre InnoTown, a technology district and university hub with an active marina and a walkable downtown center. When complete, Purple Bay will be a world-class waterfront community incorporating a variety of residential and commercial developments emphasizing educational institutions and the high-tech industry.
In the spring of 2017, Gafcon and a San Diego County Supervisor led a 20-person delegation to Zizhu’s high-tech park to participate in international bridge building sessions with their executives and collaborative design workshops with their project teams. In the summer of 2017, Gafcon hosted their project executives to tour various waterfronts throughout Southern California so they could experience and envision possibilities for the Purple Bay transformation. Gafcon continually seeks innovative ways to engage our client’s so we can anticipate their needs and create value through knowledge sharing.
