Most importantly, from an owner/operator perspective, Gafcon helped steer the project through the inevitable unforeseen delays, unexpected challenges, and myriad contractor and supplier adjustments that projects of this size and scope are sure to involve. Their understanding of the financial aspects of a project of this (or any) size, and the administrative details involving state and local agencies, inspection stakeholders, and regulatory groups was an incredible “value-added” benefit.

The Seaport Village project has been very passionate for us and we’ve kind of been really actively involved in it and as Seaport Village Tenants, we really reached out to everybody to see what everyone wanted to do. We are very uncertain how the future is going to playout for us as tenants with this construction period. It’s our livelihood and so it how we pay the bills. We need to make sure that things are flowing correctly and that the tenants are protected. Gafcon has been wonderful about that. Gafcon has done their best to make sure all the tenants feel comfortable and give them some assurance that they will be able to keep their business open during the construction period and there will be a future for them once the site is built out. You can trust Gafcon that they will work with you. They’ll be your best ally, asset and trust they are going to be loyal to you and your company.

At the time I was serving as the Vice Chairman of the Board and Corporate General Counsel for Hotel del Coronado Board Association. The China Basin building at an 800 ft wooden warf that burned one evening. It was one of the largest fires in San Francisco history. We brought Gafcon on board to help us rebuild the building. Gafcon brought to the table the expertise that we needed to get the project done right. They were the project manager. They were the owner’s representative. So they oversaw everything. They oversaw the general contractor and all the other professionals. So they were really, if you want to use a sports term, they were the “quarterback” for the team. I look for three things when I look for someone like Gafcon. First and foremost is integrity. They have to have that integrity. Second is competence. They have to have to be knowledgeable in what they do. And the third is communication. Do they communicate well with what needs to be done, the costs that going to be incurred, and what to expect when its finish. In all three categories, Gafcon just excels. You cannot hire a better company than Gafcon. My experience, and I have quite a bit of experience of the years, if you are dealing with Gafcon, you are dealing with the best.

I was the City’s representative for the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan. I was and I remain impressed with Gaf’s professionalism on this high profile project. He exuded exemplary project management skills where he managed the Alliance staff and the urban design team which was EE&K out of New York City, who rank top in their field. Gaf also performed project public outreach, scheduling, budgeting and facilitation of the Alliance meetings. That portion of the project is finished and construction of Phase I is nearing completion.
