Kern Community College District hired Gafcon to oversee the planning, design and construction of their College Safety Repair and Improvement (SRID) bond, known as Measure G. The bond financed the construction of new buildings and renovation of existing buildings to meet the growing population and educational needs of the District. KCCD is one of the largest community college districts in the U.S., stretching throughout four counties and serving more than 44,000 students annually. The bond program includes the renovation of four community colleges, five satellite campuses, and development of two sites for new college campuses.
Gafcon “took over” the project in 2011, providing staff augmentation services to fill the role of the District’s Director of Facilities. Gafcon worked with District staff to successfully integrate program/project cost management software with the District’s Banner Finance accounting system, develop the District’s Design Standards manual, and develop program management and construction management processes throughout the District and campuses.
